Foods to Consume

Fruits and Vegetables: The core of a Daniel fast consists of consuming fresh, frozen, juiced, canned, or dried fruits and vegetables. Common choices are leafy greens, carrots, cucumbers, apples, and berries. Make sure that dried fruit contains no added sugar
Whole Grains: whole grains such as brown rice, quinoa, oats, barley, buckwheat, rye, amaranth, and so forth
Unleavened breads
Seasonings, herbs, and spices
Legumes: Lentils, beans, chickpeas, peanuts, and similar
Nuts: almonds, pecans, walnuts, cashews, hazelnuts, macadamia nuts, pistachios, Brazil nuts, etc.
Seeds: sunflower seeds, soy nuts, flaxseed, sesame seeds, poppy seeds or chia seeds are all good choices.
Oils: coconut, olive, and so forth, but do not use the oils for deep-frying
Beverages: water, diluted fruit juice, unsweetened dairy-free milk


Foods to Avoid

Meat and Animal Products: Avoid all forms of meat, dairy, and animal-derived products, including fish, butter, cheese, milk, yogurt, cream, or eggs
Processed Foods: Avoid all processed foods, additives, artificial flavors, colors, or sweeteners, chemicals, and preservatives.
Caffeine and Alcohol: Avoid all caffeine-containing beverages and alcoholic drinks.
Sweeteners: Avoid any foods with added sugars, including honey, agave, molasses, artificial sweeteners, and any other added sweetener.
Yeast: Avoid all leavened breads
Refined Grains: Avoid all refined grains such as white rice or white flour.
Any form of chocolate
Fried foods, such as corn or potato chips, fried vegetables including tempura, and french fries
Solid fats including margarine, shortening, butter, and lard
